Facilities

The teaching and learning facilities of Genesee Community College are among the best in the country. Health and Physical Education students have the advantage of 84 SMART classrooms, 11 distance learning labs, 26 computer labs and the state-of-the-art Alfred C O’Connell Library with internet based research capabilities. GCC student achievement is propelled through our Student Success Center featuring dedicated Student Success Coaches.

In addition, GCC is home to the Richard C. Call Arena, the area’s largest open flexible floor space. The arena is a complete sports complex with many of GCC’s physical education classrooms, coaches’ offices, a state-of-the-art Fitness Center, Human Performance Lab, meeting rooms and a press box overlooking a Turf Field. Inside, there is a 24,000 square foot field house that accommodates sporting competitions, trade shows, community gatherings and much more. Outdoors, GCC has baseball and softball fields and six tennis courts.

With apartment style housing available adjacent to the Batavia Campus, GCC offers every amenity designed for success.

Becky Dziekan, who has been at Genesee Community College since 1996, is Associate Professor and Director of Health and Physical Education. She supervises all Health and Physical Education full-time and adjunct faculty, teaches courses, and develops curricula, among many other responsibilities. Prior to this appointment, Becky was the full-time Head Athletic Trainer at GCC.She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Sport from SUNY College at Brockport, and a Master’s Degree in Athletic Training from Indiana State University.

Michael von Schiller serves as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and full-time faculty in the Health and Physical Education Department at Genesee Community College. Prior to his arrival at Genesee, Coach von Schiller had successful stints as Men’s Basketball Coach at both Clinton and Onondaga Community Colleges. Coach von Schiller earned a Bachelor’s in Physical Education from SUNY Brockport, and a Master’s in Education from St. Lawrence University.

Krystal serves as an instructor in the Health and Physical Education. Prior to her arrival she taught health and physical education in the public and private school sectors as well as coached youth through varsity level athletic programs. Krystal earned her BSed from SUNY Brockport in Physical Education with a concentration in teacher education with a minor in adapted PE, and her MSed in Health Education from St. Bonaventure University.
