Mechanical Ventilation 2
A continuation of RCP115. Discusses current theory in the management of a patient on mechanical ventilation, weaning from life support, and home care ventilation issues. Case studies involving all aspects of RCP115 and RCP116 in the management of multiple disease states and trauma care. Corequisite: RCPLB4. Prerequisite: RCP114 and RCP115 each with a grade of ‘C’ or higher.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Assess positive pressure ventilation as it relates to the pulmonary system in healthy and diseased lungs.
2. Interpret patient ventilator output, specific to disease states in order to assess treatment.
3. Compare and contrast ventilator and patient data for weaning from mechanical ventilation versus continuance of mechanical ventilation.
4. Describe long-term mechanical ventilation with attention to disease states and equipment.
5. Describe special techniques used in ventilator support. (Airway Pressure Release Ventilation, High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation)
6. Identify various treatments methods of noninvasive ventilation.
